Recorder Privacy Notice
Effective Date: 12 October 2026 Last Updated: 12 October 2026
This notice covers the DiscoverWorthy Recorder, the Chrome extension that turns a job you do in your browser into a step-by-step how-to guide in DiscoverWorthy (Company → Guides). It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and adds to it. Everything in that policy still applies; where this notice is more specific about the Recorder, this notice governs.
1. When the Recorder records
The Recorder does nothing until you paste a recording code from DiscoverWorthy and press Start on a tab. From then until you press Finish:
- it records only that tab (and a tab the job itself opens from it). Other tabs and windows are left alone;
- it records one step per click, nothing in between;
- a bar on the page shows that it is recording, with Pause, Undo and Finish.
A recording code works for one guide only and expires after 24 hours.
2. What it collects, and why
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A screenshot of the tab | Each click while recording | To show the step in the guide |
| The page address | Each click while recording | So the guide can say where the step happens |
| The name and position of what you clicked | Each click while recording | To write the instruction ("Click Save") and draw a box around it |
| The recording code | When you paste it | To know which guide the steps belong to, and where to send them |
What you type is never collected. Before a screenshot leaves your browser, every field with something in it is painted over. The Recorder never reads what is in a field, only whether something is there.
What it does not collect: keystrokes, passwords, form values, cookies, your browsing history, other tabs, your location, or anything while it is not recording. There is no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking of any kind.
Kept in your browser: while a recording is running, the Recorder remembers which guide, which tab and how many steps (in the extension's own storage), so the popup and the page agree. This is removed when you press Finish.
3. Where the steps go
Steps are sent straight to your business's DiscoverWorthy account and stored privately: screenshots are only shown, through short-lived links, to people signed in to your business. A new guide stays a draft until someone at your business checks and publishes it.
Before publishing, anyone editing the guide can blur parts of a screenshot; the blurred version replaces the original.
A business can choose to share a published guide with a public link or embed it on a website. That is off unless someone at the business turns it on, and turning it off again stops the link working.
4. Who else sees it
Beyond the providers in our Privacy Policy:
| Provider | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure (Australia East) | Hosting and private storage | Screenshots and step details |
| Microsoft Azure OpenAI | Translating a guide, when the business adds a language | The guide's written words only, not screenshots. Not used to train models |
| ElevenLabs | Reading a guide aloud, when the business turns on a voice | The guide's written words only, not screenshots |
| Google Chrome Web Store | Distributing the extension | Whatever the store collects; see Google's policies |
We do not sell anything the Recorder collects, and do not use it for anything other than the guide it was recorded for.
5. How long it is kept
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Screenshots and steps | Until the step or guide is deleted, or the business's account closes |
| A screenshot replaced by a blurred one, or a re-recording | The old one is deleted when replaced |
| Recording state in your browser | Until you press Finish, or remove the extension |
| Backups | Point-in-time backups are kept for 7 days |
